    Monash University's Gender and Family Violence Prevention Centre has launched an interactive website, 'When staying home isn't safe', which describes the impacts the stay-at-home restrictions had on gender-based violence, particularly family violence, which intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic.   • Consultation: Invitation for Interview on Service Improvement for Family Violence & Sexual Harm

    RMIT University's Department of Criminology & Justice Studies, invites specialist family violence workers or family violence services that have expertise in responding to victim survivors of both family violence and sexual assault to participate in their research project, 'Responding to victim survivors with experience of family violence and sexual harm'. The research project is funded by Family Safety Victoria and seeks to understand the experiences and support needs of these victim survivors, in order to inform the ongoing development of Victoria's family violence response.   • Monash Gender and Family Violence Prevention Centre Study

    The St Kilda Legal Service have partnered with Monash University's Gender and Family Violence Prevention Centre for a study into the experiences of LGBTIQ+ victim survivors of Victoria's family violence intervention order system. The study will also seek to better understand how LGBTIQ+ Victorian's interact with the family violence legal system and experiences of being 'misidentified' as the predominant aggressor in a family violence context.   • Research Report: Future Proofing Safety

    The Centre for Family Research & Evaluation (CFRE), in partnership with RMIT University's Centre for Innovative Justice and the Australian Institute of Family Studies, recently commenced 'Future-proofing Safety', a major research project examining how family violence in Victoria has changed since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Findings will be shared via a report in June 2022 along with workshops with the sector to unpack their findings and a research report and crisis readiness framework in October 2022. Posted May 2022

  • Young Women’s Report: Gender Based Violence

    The Young Women's Report, released by the Australian Women Against Violence Alliance (AWAVA) explores a range of issues associated with gender-based violence and its impact on young women and non-binary people. Drawing on both the 2021 survey conducted by AWAVA and the National Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Women's Alliance (NATSIWA), the report introduces new ways to understand both interpersonal and structural experiences of diverse forms of violence, relying on first-hand accounts from young people living in a range of circumstances across Australia.   • Family Planning Victoria launches Sexual Health App 

    Family Planning Victoria has launched its first App, 'In Real Life' (IRL), dedicated to the sexual health literacy of young people. IRL is free to download, gender and sexuality neutral, frank, honest, taboo-free and medically accurate. Recommended for people 15 years and above, the App's content is closely aligned with the questions Family Planning Victoria staff are regularly asked by students in school settings about the specifics of sex and how to access credible sources of information.     The eSafetyCommissioner has released a report highlighting women's lived experiences of online abuse, and points to the need for greater action by online platforms and employers to prevent and respond to abuse.     The Victorian Law Commission has released its report 'Improving the justice system response to sexual offences'. The report is the result of a major inquiry held over 18 months, involving 99 consultations and attracting 71 submissions. The report contains 91 recommendations to improve the way the justice system in Victoria responds to sexual offences. Posted December 2021
